With a little metaphorical extension, ap could become a causitive marker.
“He did it from the king” => The king made him do it.

That sounds like an interesting idea. I’ll have to take a look — I think ap was initially meant to mean ‘from’ in the sense of being from a place (i.e. aplad Pahraane “he/she is from Pahra, he/she is Pahran”), but I think I could still make it go that way. Thanks for the suggestion.
